The food was good here but the service was weird. We went around 1pm for some lunch. The food came out really fast and it was good. We got the bang bang shrimp as an appetizer. We got 2 blackened shrimp poboys that come with a side of fries. All the food was great. The service was just awkward to say the least. But we were the only ones in the the restaurant so maybe that's why.

Great place to eat. The bang bang shrimp was phenomenal as well as the red snapper! Our server was friendly and fast.

This place didn't have much atmosphere but the bang bang shrimp is really great, they have good prices for beer, and the service is very friendly

I got my food to go because they had s private party. I had the blackened fish taco, side salad, and an order of sweet potato fries. The food was yummy, especially the taco. The service I received was good. The workers were very nice. I'd go here again just for that yummy taco!

I have a house in Morgantown, about 2 miles down the road from this restaurant. I have been here for a long time without knowing about it, and I wish I had!! The service is friendly and swift. The Shrimp and Grits were AMAZING! The shrimp po-boy was also good, and the Nookie burger was phenomenal!! Also try the fried pickles and the onion rings-- also worth getting. So glad we know about it now!!

We never would have found this place, much less tried it if it was't for a personal recommendation. We are glad we went. Compared to our hour long wait the night before at a beach front restaurant, we walked in and had our choice of seating locations. Granted the ambience was nothing special; however the great service and delicious food more than made up for decor. We started things off with fried pickles. Excellent. They came with ranch. We ordered the following meals: fish tacos (blackened), grilled shrimp, catch of the day (mahi mahi), and hot wings. You can tell the chef knew what she was doing and prepared our food beautifully. We ordered sweet potato fries, onion frings, hush puppies, and cole slaw as sides. Again, delicious. Portion sizes were adequate and prices were average for the area. The sweet waitress did a great job and made us feel welcome. Definitely will come back next time we are in the area. This place came recommended and I will, in turn, do the same.

The place is a dive but good food & service, I had fish tacos & I agree with other yelpers-they were delicious! With fresh, salty crisp fries. My date had the country fried steak w/spinach casserole & new potatoes-he rated his at 3-1/2 stars. I would definitely go back-maybe for breakfast, we hear they do a great bkst!

We stayed nearby in a rental house on the beach. Found the place on Yelp looking for anything close by. I had the blackened fish and shrimp combo plate. It was awesome! Everything was perfectly cooked and flavorful. Blackening spice was not overwhelming and the price was right! Don't go expecting white table cloth dining, it is what it is. A great seafood dive. service was great. For comparison, I had the blackened Mahi Mahi at Lulu's, a tourist spot, and felt that I was robbed! I got a 4 oz. chunk of Mahi that tasted burnt for $18 at Lulu's. I won't be going back to Lulu's.

Started with yummy fried pickles and some of the best gumbo I have ever had...huge shrimp and chunks of sausage. Delicious... And may I say THANK YOU for offering the po'boy sandwich grilled and blackened as well as fried...there is such delicious seafood down here..it is nice to be able to taste it in my sammich...grilled was my option..well worth it...stop in to this little gem..you will be happy you did.

We stopped for lunch and ordered the blackened fish taco and a hamburger with American cheese. The taco was a little better than the burger. Also indulged in 2 special sides (up charge of $2 each), the sweet potato fries and the onion rings. The friendly service added some Cajun ranch dipping sauce to enhance both of these. The crinkle cut of the fries was a unique twist. No cilantro on the fish taco made it more delightful than a lot of other fish tacos I have tried in the past. No outdoor seating so we got it to go and food our own picnic place.

Not good at all! The shrimp on the po boy were popcorn shrimp size! Anything fried is good and easy to do and everything grilled here was not good at all! Of all the places we ate in gulf shores this by far was the worst. Drive in to 59 and eat anything else!

Great place to eat on the parkway. Kind, friendly staff that always welcomes our family. Our kids love the karaoke nights! Food was fresh and hot when served.

This place is awesome!!! Customer service was wonderful! Very attentive and friendly waiter! The food is all very fresh and obviously homemade. I highly recommend this place! Delicious! The decor isn't the most up to date but it doesn't matter because everything else is perfect!

Saturday night and felt like we had the place to ourselves, not sure why others don't love it but the waitress was great, food was fast and price was right! close to where we are staying, the outside had much to desire but don't let that deter you. fish and shrimp are delectable and the beer is cold. will be back every time i make it to gulf shores!

Good food. Service was good, but short staffed. Had the blackened fish, not bad. A good choice and close to where we were staying and better than the resort food options.

So disappointed. So many good reviews and we decided to try it. I just can't imagine what anyone finds redeeming about this place. It's a run-down hovel with rude and pushy wait staff. The tables and booths were less than clean. And the food was disgusting. Fish taco? I almost fell out of my sticky booth. A grocery store flour tortilla that was so soaked in grease that it was slimy, with a couple of tiny brownish green wilted pieces of something that may have been lettuce at one time and a catfish fillet...whole...slapped on top. My 5-year-old ordered the gumbo. He's a great eater. It was room temp when it came. I informed the server and she took it away and brought it back lava hot. When we left it was still too hot for him to eat. My other child ordered the kids burger. It was a patty of meat on a slice of toasted white bread cut in half. A whole meat patty on half a slice of bread! I could go on, but why?

We had never noticed this little joint tucked behind "the pines" gas station before seeing it on yelp. Since we were staying at the beach club, and didn't want a formal meal, stopped in. As another reviewer noted, the fried green tomatoes were very good. I was disappointed to find that the shrimp were frozen asian farm raised shrimp, even though there is w supposed fresh seafood market in the building. So I opted for the burger, which was good, but also not fresh. Given that the restaurant advertises local ingredients I was a little puzzled. One the plus, our server was friendly, attentive, and helpful. Drinks never got past half full and service was quick.

Wow. We have been coming to the Ft Morgan / Gulf Shores area for several years and have driven by this place a bunch of times. We wanted to try this place out on a rainy fall day. It was definitely worth discovering. Smallish and cozy, it was the slow time of the year so we practically had the place to ourselves. Aaron the bartender helped us. He was very helpful and gave us great service. We were starving for something besides shrimp and fish and the place was just the ticket. First we tried the hot wings... So good we ordered another batch. Cooked just right and lots of hot sauce. Next up the Nookie burger and hand battered onion rings, AMAZING. For desert we picked up some blackberry cobbler to eat back at the house. The menu had a mix of seafood items, shrimp, po-boys, etc. we will for sure go back to try some of that. Lots of TVs if your into watching the game. If you are looking for a place off the beaten track this place is a real treat.

6 couples & 2 babies looking for something good, close, mod priced without a wait Labor Day weekend. They were short staffed & were on the ball- drinks & food came out quick! We had Bang Bang shrimp apps (really good-fried), rib eye, burger, fish taco & fried seafood platter. One had Mahi Mahi which was a tad dry. Everything else was good. We were all surprised- def a casual hole in the wall & it worked great for what we needed. Stick with beer or mixed drinks, not much of a wine list, which is fine. Nothing fancy, good food severed well- thanks guys!

I'd call it average at best. I had the Shrimp and Grits. Didn't have any special flavor to it to get excited about and the waitress said this was a specialty. My wife and daughter had hamburgers and i tried them and they chose wisely. My other daughter had shrimp over a chopped salad and she said it was very good. Service was slow. We wanted to like it because it was close to our condo but it was just average.

Nice proximity to The Plantation. Beer was cold, Po' boy was good. Food is a little overpriced for the quality. Overall nothing bad but just your average dive for fried food.

Well, this was a surprise. We had also driven by on numerous occasions, and decided to stop by on the last night of our trip. The bartender took care of us, and did a great job, very attentive. Fish tacos were excellent, the fried seafood was best we had on the trip, and the grilled shrimp were all that. The fresh fruit at the end was a nice touch. We will go back.

We went to the restaurant on the first night of our visit to Gulf Shores and it set the stage for a week of mostly disappointing dining experiences. To start when we asked our waitress about specials or items on the menu her response was that she didn't know because she was normally the bartender. I am not sure where the normal "waitress" was but if the bartender has to fill in she should know the menu. There was 6 of us, three children and three adults. The three adults got hamburgers, my son got a tuna steak, and my 4 yr old daughters got kids meals. We also got two drinks and an appetizer. Our bill was over $120. For burgers, location and the atmosphere of this hole in the wall I feel this was exorbitant. In addition our burgers were not made the way we requested them, and they were way over done and dry. We were not impressed by this place at all and did not go back again on our trip. Unfortunately, if you are sting in Fort Morgan, as we were there is not a lot of options to eat in the area.

It was the middle of October. It was Sunday night. It was almost 8:00 pm. Our rental house was was out near the end of the Fort Morgan peninsula. When you combine these things together, the result is almost zero options for dining out without driving all the way back into Gulf Shores. Luckily as I made that trip, I decided to pull into the Behind the Pines Restaurant to see if they just might be open. I wasn't really even sure if I was going to get out of the car to be honest. The restaurant, as is indicated by the name, is located behind The Pines. The Pines is a gas station / general store. As such my expectations were low. When I got in and checked out the menu, it was a mix of seafood and standard American fare. This was good because that is exactly what I had been looking for based upon the instructions that I had been given. I had a family and two hungry guests to feed, all of whom were waiting on me back at the rental house and hoping that by some miracle I could come up with some good seafood and chicken in short order. Behinds the Pines Restaurant provided that miracle. After plopping down at the bar, I asked the bartender how the fried oysters were. Her response, "Terrible. We sent them all back. We didn't think they tasted that great, and if we won't eat them, we won't serve them." My hopes for a good meal to go immediately improved. I ended up ordering fried shrimp, fried fish, fried chicken fingers and fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes were actually a bit of a quality control test. Having lived in the South my entire life, I know that two things are generally true: 1) when along the Gulf Coast, its not that hard to find decent fried seafood 2) its a lot harder than it should be to find a restaurant that can cook a decent fried green tomato. The second item holding true, I often use fried green tomatoes as a test for how good a restaurant is at the tougher items. I carted all of the food back to the house and presented it as a fried offering to the hungry inhabitants. We were all amazed at how good the food was. All of the food was perfectly fried. Nothing was overcooked. The chicken fingers were as flavorful and juicy as I've had in a long time. The shrimp and fish were tender. All of the food came with a jalapeno ranch dipping sauce that was phenomenal. To top it all off, the fried green tomatoes were perfectly cooked. They were fully battered, but the batter didn't slide off when you bit into them. The thickness was just right and the tomatoes had a great flavor. I was astounded at how good all of the food was. Nothing disappointed. Given the location, I felt this was nothing short of a miracle, but after talking to the bartender it had become quite obvious that this place was serious about serving quality food. The Behind the Pines Restaurant is a real diamond in the rough, and I suspect that we'll eat there again before our vacation is over.

I was at Gulf Shores a few weeks ago and decided to head to Ft. Morgan one day as I always do when I go to the beach and my friend who was with me pointed out this place. I was a little unsure about it at first but she convinced me we should try it and I said why not. We went about 3:00 PM and nobody was in there except someone having a drink at the bar. The service and the food was really good as I got the wings which were nice fat juicy ones at that. My friend ordered the Philly with fries and that was really good but I enjoyed the fries more. I will say when I come back to Gulf Shores I will be stopping by again!

This is our first time in Gulf Shores. Checked out yelp for a place close by to our rental because quite frankly, we are exhausted from being in the sun all day! Read reviews and thought we'd give this place a shot. Parked the car- looked at the building. My bride and I instantly had second thoughts about eating at the place. The exterior was screaming mediocre at best. Ordered the combo platter - blackened. Wow! Bursting with flavor and freshness! Food was hot, well prepared and displayed and wonderful. Fried pickles were awesome as well. Great service!!!

Small place behind a gas station with maybe 6 booth tables that seat 4 max and 7 tables. Doesn't accommodate large parties. When we dined their was live music which is nice the sound level was loud enough for something the size of Wal-Mart. The waiter was yelling questions back. Lastly the food is nothing more than frozen stuff from a bag and put on a plate. Very disappointing.

We were so eager to get to the beach that we'd driven through lunch. Finally, after an hour of sandcastle building, we needed something. And we didn't want to drive into town. Thanks, Yelp, for pointing us here. At 3pm on the last Friday in September, it was us with our two kids, and two men at the bar. We chose the first booth in the middle as the server/bartender came around to take our orders. We both ordered draft beers. I chose the fried fish sandwich (some kind of farmed white fish that I'd never heard of) with fries while J got the fish tacos with coleslaw. The boys snacked on the saltines that were on the table. The food arrived in no time. There wasn't much to the fish sandwich, but it was nicely fried and flaky. The fries were thick potato wedges, pretty hot. I ended up taking them to go since they were too hot for me to eat so quickly. They were pretty good the next day as well. J enjoyed his fish tacos. They've got TVs, and the server brought out crayons and coloring pages for our toddler. There's not much to it, but it's a solid option, particularly if you don't want to head all the way into town. Not much to it, but nice to have without having to go all the way into town

This place has some very good food and natural charm. This is no Sassy Bass or Hangout but if you are staying at or near the Beach Club in Fort Morgan this has to be on your list. At a minimum get some take out. For outstanding local fare I would recommend the Fish Taco and Absolutely get the Bang Bang Shrimp. Crazy good. Live local music certain nights fine for the whole family. Burger is decent. Skip the kid meals and just get them a burger from the adult menu (kid version is a 1/2 burger on toast and not as good). Absolutely will be back.

We have driven by this restaurant many times over the years and never went in because it didn't look like much from the outside. This time we decided to check it out and we're so pleasantly surprised the inside decor is clean and nice. The waiter was friendly and the food was really good. You have to try the bang bang shrimp. The shrimp and grits was really good so was the blackened fish tacos. Side substitutions are not a problem and they had a full bar. We were pleasantly surprised we're going back tonight!
